NetSim licensing
Licensing models offered by Tetcos for NetSim:
1. Cloud License (Floating)
What it is:
A hosted license server managed by Tetcos on the cloud.
How does it work?
- End users download NetSim and a common license file.
- As long as the user’s PC has internet access, NetSim checks out a license from Tetcos’ server. NetSim checks back in the license when NetSim is closed.
- Admin can control who can check out licenses via IP, user, or host rules in the license portal.
- Only license handshake data is exchanged over the internet. No simulation data or user files are transferred to the cloud—they remain fully local.
Pros:
- No need to maintain a license server in-house.
- Instant access from any location with internet connectivity.
Cons:
- Requires uninterrupted internet during use.
- Internal security/IT clearances for vendor to host license server.
2. On-premises License (Floating)
What it is:
Customer hosts the license server inside your organization’s network. License type is floating.
How does it work?
- Install and run license server on any regular Windows machine. The license would be tied to a MAC-ID or to a dongle.
- NetSim clients connect to the license server by entering the IP address of the server.
- Remote access to end users can be provided if VPN is enabled by IT.
- All communication stays within your network, ensuring full control. No license information leaves your premises.
Pros:
- Works without internet after initial setup.
- Full control over license server.
Cons:
- Requires setup and maintenance of license server and firewall rules.
- Network configuration needed for remote access.
Choosing the Right Option:
- Choose Cloud License : If your users are remote or you prefer hassle-free management without server upkeep (e.g. universities).
- Choose On-Premises : If your organization needs full control, and/or your organization enforces strict network isolation (e.g. defence organizations).
